HYDERABAD: The Quli Qutub Shah Urban Development Authority (QQSUDA) has been reactivated by the Government of Telangana and entrusted with the responsibility of carrying out development projects in the Old City of Hyderabad.
An order dated August 10 has also been issued specifying tasks and projects assigned to the development body, mainly including the Charminar Pedestrian Project (CPP), Lad Bazar Pedestrian Project, Pathergatti Pedestrian Project, Restoration and Development of Sardar Mahal, Redevelopment of Murgi Chowk, Revamping Miralam Mandi, and Development protection and rejuvenation of the Mir Alam Tank.
Earlier these projects were entrusted to the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) but have now been shifted to the QQSUDA. DS Lokesh Kumar, Commissioner, GHMC, has been ordered to allot the regular budget for the aforementioned projects.
The QQSUDA was initially set up in 1981 with the objective of conserving and restoring the heritage structures of the Old City. With the revival of the development body, the state government hopes to provide special attention to the renovation and conservation of heritage structures in the area.
At the same time, the QQSUDA will be providing provisions of better civic amenities including communications, electricity, water supply, drainage, housing, and educational facilities.
