MUMBAI: The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has issued a fresh set of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), keeping in mind the rising COVID-19 cases in Mumbai. BMC announced that buildings or housing societies with five or more COVID-19 positive patients will be sealed.

Iqbal Singh Chahal, Commissioner, BMC, has directed police officials to be deployed at the entrance of each sealed building or contamination zone. The day-to-day activities of the sealed buildings will be restricted as well. Municipal commissioners under the 24 wards of the BMC have been told to appoint clean-up marshals who will be responsible for implementing the COVID-19 protocols.

Chahal, in his virtual address, asked the health workers under BMC’s jurisdiction to be prepared if the third wave of COVID-19 hits. Furthermore, he informed that over 74 per cent of people above the age group of 18 have been vaccinated. The civic officials have been asked to ensure the complete vaccination of individuals as soon as possible.
