CHANDIGARH: The Chandigarh Administration has collaborated with Pious Air purifier Pvt Ltd., a Delhi-based private firm, to install the tallest air purifier in the country. Debendra Dalai, Director of Environment, said that the administration will only be responsible for the electricity and water consumption expenses of the giant purifier.
Dalai added that the company approached the Chandigarh Administration and authorities agreed to provide them with space at no cost. It can be a marketing strategy of the firm but it will be required to maintain the facility for five years, he said. A relevant place is still to be decided to install the purifier. However, it is clear that it will be installed at the most polluted and crowded space in Chandigarh. It will be capable of cleaning the air around it in the radius of one kilometre. It will also show clearly the air quality index of the area including of the air it inhales and the air it exhales. Officials informed that the purifier will also need water to filter the polluted air. Gautam Gambhir, Member of Parliament, Government of India, had installed three giant air purifiers in November 2020, at his constituency of East Delhi
