GANDHINAGAR, Gujarat: Chief Minister of Gujarat Bhupendra Patel directed the Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) to ensure that no person enters manholes. The directive of the Chief Minister came during a function held at Mahatma Mandir to distribute cheques worth ₹1,512 cr to various ULBs.
The money was given to implement various developmental works in the state. The Chief Minister also asked the ULBs to maintain the quality of the works being undertaken by them. He said, “Now, it has become very rare, but still at some places we get a human being to enter the manhole and tamper with his life. We must come out of it and for that, we are flagging off five sewer suction machines through Gujarat Urban Development Mission (GUDM).” Five machines will be available in the zones and could be brought into action whenever required. Several senior level officials, including Raj Kumar, Chief Secretary, Harsh Sanghavi, Praful Panseriya, MLAs and other ULB officials, were present at the event.
