LUCKNOW, Uttar Pradesh: The Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Yogi Adityanath laid the foundation stones for 2,029 urban development projects worth ₹8,731 crore in the state’s capital Lucknow. With the local body elections knocking on the door, Adityanath stated that the urban local bodies have become the axis of the state’s transformation.
Assuring a decent honorarium and a secure environment to work for the sanitation workers, Yogi said, “The sanitation workers must get the respect they deserve. In particular, the government will ensure the arrangements for the security of sewers, along with the provision of additional honorarium for them.”
He further added that his government is committed to developing infrastructure and is preparing to launch electric vehicles in districts like Unnao, Sitapur, Barabanki, and Raebareli.
The Urban Development Department has also taken steps to build auditoriums in the Mau Municipal Council at the cost of ₹15 crore in memory of freedom fighters and martyrs.
He claimed that seven municipal corporations in the state have been brought under the Smart City Mission while other municipal corporations are underway to connect with the same project.
The Uttar Pradesh government is planning to develop 100 Nagar Panchayats as “Aspirational Cities” under the Aspirational Cities Programme with a budget of ₹100 crore. The Department of Urban Development has been assigned to select 100 aspirational local bodies based on prescribed parameters. The department has also been given the responsibility of developing basic infrastructure in the local bodies that have historical and religious importance. An additional sum of ₹50 crore for the basic amenities has been kept aside for the selected urban bodies.
