NEW DELHI: More than 50 million people worldwide have been infected with the coronavirus. The count was 50.2 million on Sunday according to Josh Hopkins University’s coronavirus tracker. Globally more than 1.2 million people have died from the disease since the start of the pandemic.

India despite a population of 120 crores has only 8.5 million cases and 0.12 million deaths. This is a far cry from the US which despite having a population of only 32.82 crores has 9.8 million cases and 0.237 million deaths. The US is the largest contributor to global coronavirus cases. The UK has reported 1.19 million cases and more than 49000 people as dead. EU has reported nearly 4 million cases and 0.1 million deaths.

Studies from various Universities and WHO have predicted that the corona pandemic is unlikely to be abated in the near future, though it may have reached its peak.
