NEW DELHI: Government of Tamil Nadu has signed an agreement with Ola on Monday, December 14, to set up its first electric scooter factory worth Rs 2,400 crore. A statement issued by Ola mentioned that in line with the vision of Government of India, the factory is an important initiative towards making an ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’. The project will reduce the country’s dependency on imports in various sectors such as electric vehicles. It will also boost the local manufacturing sector, create jobs and will improve the technical expertise of the country, the statement added.
The factory will create around 10,000 jobs and will become the world’s largest scooter manufacturing facility. The factory will have an annual capacity of 2 million units. Ola said that the plant is to be operational within a year and will represent the country as a global hub for cutting edge manufacturing of electric vehicles.
Bhavish Aggarwal, Chairman and Group Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Ola, said that the facility will be one of the most advanced manufacturing units in the world. He added that the plant will cater to the needs of customers in markets around the world including Europe, Asia and Latin America.
