World Bank to support 24×7 water supply project in Shimla

SHIMLA: The World Bank on Monday, September 20, approved financial assistance of $160 million (Rs 1,168 crore) to Shimla’s Water Supply and Sewage project. The project will guarantee 24×7 water supply and efficient sewage services. It is estimated that the project will be finished by 2026. 

Rajneesh, Secretary, Department of Urban Development, Government of Himachal Pradesh, commented on the lengthy negotiations between the World Bank and the Department of Economic Affairs. He added that the project will start on January 1, 2022. 

Suresh Bhardwaj, Minister of Urban Development of the state, said that he is hopeful the project will be able to put the worries of Shimla residents for a constant water supply to bed. He explained that the project will also improve sewage management services of the area. 

The project will cost over $250 million (Rs 1,825 crore) out of which, $90 million (Rs 657 crore) will be given by the Government of Himachal Pradesh.
