NEW DELHI: India’s COVID-19 tally on Monday, July 20 crossed the 11-lakh mark with the highest single-day spike of 40,425 new COVID-19 cases and 681 deaths, according to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW). The total number of cases in the country stand at 11,18,043, while the death toll has reached to 27,947. The 11-lakh mark comes three days after the 10 lakh cases were reported nationwide. According to MoHFW, there are 3,90,459 active cases in the country and 7,00,087 patients have been cured/migrated/discharged, taking the recovery rate to 62.62 per cent.
Maharashtra remains the most affected state with 3,10,455 COVID-19 cases and 11,854 fatalities reported until Sunday, July 19. Tamil Nadu stands second with 1,70,693 infections and 2,481 fatalities followed by Delhi with 1,22,793 cases and 3,628 fatalities due to the virus.
The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has reported that 1,40,47,908 samples have been tested till July 19, of which, 2,56,039 samples were tested yesterday.
