CHANDIGARH: During a press conference in Chandigarh on Saturday, March 26, the Associated Chambers of Commerce & Industry of India (ASSOCHAM) stated that it will play a proactive role in accelerating the pace of economic development in the northern region of nation. Amrit Sagar Mittal, Chairman (North region), ASSOCHAM said that the organisation will focus on the one district, one product (ODOP), farm tourism, and small enterprises. It will organise events, seminars, webinars, trade fairs, and meetings in collaboration with different governments to increase the business potential in states and union territories of the region.
Mittal mentioned that the ODOP aims at identifying an exclusive product or service from a district and promoting it, so that small enterprises, which are the backbone of the economy are benefitted. He said that the organisation will also work on removal of bottlenecks in freight movement as the concerned region is landlocked and the major transportation of goods occurs through the land route.
