Western railway to appoint cleanliness agents to ensure cleaner stations

MUMBAI: Western Railway in a bid to make stations look clean, scaling up it cleanliness activity has decided to deploy “Agents of Change” (CA) to ensure cleaner stations, including toilets and concourse area.

The pilot project will be implemented at 8 important stations – Dadar, Mumbai Central, Churchgate, Andheri, Virar, Bandra Terminus, Vasai Road and Borivli.

“These CAs are basically supervisors from our commercial department. They will work towards implementation and monitoring of the cleanliness drives like anti-spitting and anti-littering campaign.” said a senior Western Railway officer.

In a bid to make this cleanliness drive more efficient WR has introduced a dedicated 24X7 what’s app number (90044 99733) where commuters can post pictures of unclean premises of railway stations and can use this number to report and complain about any illegal activity they witness.

Dedicated staff is also appointed to handle all the complaints, and is deputed round the clock. The CAs will act as deterrents for entry of unauthorised persons, including hawkers on platforms and FOBs. These CAs will also educate the passengers about the provision of railway act under for cleanliness so that they become aware of the penalties.
