KOLKATA: The Department of Health and Family Welfare, Government of West Bengal has demanded the sites for starting polyclinic services from the Department of Urban Development and Municipal Affairs, Government of West Bengal. These sites would be leveraged from urban primary health centers (UPHC).
As per the health department, these clinics will entail specialists from streams like medicine, gynaecology, paediatrics, ophthalmology, dermatology, psychiatry, etc. The plan includes grouping up five existing UPHCs into one polyclinic. Every polyclinic will include diagnostic services with equipment like X-Ray machines and further, haematology analysers and enzyme-immunoassay ELISA will also be brought in to enhance these facilities. As per a report from Time of India, the state government planned to introduce 17 polyclinics on January 12, 2022, in Kolkata and around 59 others across Bengal.
The health department has asked the urban development department to arrange sites so that the aforementioned proposal of clinics could be executed at the earliest. Furthermore, the health department has mentioned that such clinics must have at least two rooms space for accommodating an examination table, chairs and tables for the doctors and patients, etc.
