West Bengal and Odisha to receive heavy rains for the next 2 days

BHUBANESWAR: West Bengal and Odisha can expect more rain showers with increased intensity over the next two days, said the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Tuesday, October 19. 

Over the past three days, the aforementioned two states have been battered by incessant showers. The coastal and interior regions of Odisha may experience light to moderate rain or thundershowers, predicted the IMD. The warning also indicated that strong winds reaching 40-50 kmph, going up to 60 kmph might prevail in the Odisha coast region over the next two days. 

IMD stated that the two states should be prepared to meet water-logging, landslides, or localized flood-like situations in the districts wherein yellow warnings have been issued. Pradeep Kumar Jena, Special Relief Commissioner in light of the yellow warning by the weather department, asked the district collector to ensure round-the-clock operations of control rooms. 

In the last 24 hours, Odisha received 30 mm rainfall in Talchher followed by Boudh at 16 mm. Lightening along with light to moderate thunderstorms is expected in all districts of West Bengal and Odisha till Thursday morning.
