Website to register for COVID-19 relief grant a fraud: PIB

NEW DELHI: The Press Information Bureau (PIB) recently fact checked a message circulating in India, asking people to apply for COVID-19 relief fund through a link.

CLAIM

The WhatsApp message being circulated claims that a person can apply for COVID-19 relief fund grant provided by the government. The message had a link attached asking people to register there with personal information.

REALITY

The PIB released a statement on the message and said that it is ‘fake’. The agency alarmed the people about the fraudulent websites and forwards and urged people to never disclose any personal information on unknown websites.

The Government of India on Thursday, June 3, had said that around 550 million people in the country have been provided with 28 lakh tonnes of foodgrains for free in May. It has been distributed to people via ration shops under the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana scheme in order to provide relief during the second wave of COVID-19 pandemic in the nation.
