SHARM EL-SHEIKH, Egypt: Antonio Guterres, Secretary General, United Nations, said that in order to win the fight against climate change, we must have zero tolerance towards the concept of greenwashing.
The statement was made during the launch of a put out by the Net-Zero Expert group. The latest report submitted on Tuesday, November 8, also criticized the concept of greenwashing adopted by companies, banks and cities to mislead the public. UN Chief called this report a guidebook to ensure transparency and accountability towards net zero pledges. He said that the report brings clarity in four key areas, environmental integrity, accountability, credibility and the role of the government.
UN Chief added, “Solving the climate crisis requires strong political leadership. I urge all government leaders to provide non-state entities with a level playing field to transition to a just, net-zero future.”
After the Paris Agreement in 2015, the number of nations committing towards the net-zero climate goals is on the rise.
