NEW DELHI: Tejas Express, India’s first private semi-high speed train is now serving water to its passengers in biodegradable bottles. “At least 1,500 bottles are being served on Tejas Express every day in both up and down trips. The bottles would be in use for a few months to observe the results and check how much do they actually decompose. The bottles would be disposed of as prescribed,” said Ashwini Srivastava, Chief Regional Manager (CRM), Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC).
The IRCTC is presently manufacturing the bottles at its Mumbai bottling plant on a trial basis. For the first time, IRCTC, a central public enterprise under the Ministry of Railways, has taken an eco-friendly measure by using degradable bottles.
