Water scarcity: Delhi Govt to charge ₹2000 for wastage of water

Delhi Government to Impose Rs 2000 Fine for Wastage of Water In response to the water shortage in the national capital due to soaring temperatures, the Delhi government has announced a penalty of ₹2,000 for activities that lead to the wastage of water. These activities include washing vehicles with a hose and using domestic water supply for construction and commercial purposes. To enforce this measure, Water Minister Atishi has instructed the Delhi Jal Board to deploy 200 teams across the city to curb water-wasting activities. These teams will be tasked with preventing practices such as car washing with a hose, overflowing water tanks, and the unauthorized use of domestic water supply for construction and commercial purposes. Atishi emphasized the severity of the water scarcity, attributing it to the intense heatwave conditions and the shortage of water supply from Haryana. The deployment of these teams aims to deter water wastage and ensure that illegal water connections at construction sites or commercial establishments are disconnected. The initiative is a response to the pressing need to conserve water resources and mitigate the impact of the prevailing heatwave in the national capital.
