New Delhi: The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) has marked major part of Ganga river red on a map on their website after National Green Tribunal (NGT) asked CPCB to show a distinguished map of Ganga where river water is fit and unfit for bathing and drinking.

On the map marked by CPCB only some places in Uttrakhand are marked fit which are indicated by green points other than those areas whole stretch till it drains into the Bay of Bengal in West Bengal is unfit and marked by red spots.
The bench of NGT headed by Justice(retd.) A K Goel, on 27th July noted that the river stretch between the area of Haridwar and Unnao district in UP was unfit for drinking and bathing and said that innocent people bath and drink it without knowing the health consequences of it.
