SHILLONG, Meghalaya: First of its kind waste-to-energy plant was inaugurated by the Chief Minister of Meghalaya Conrad Sangma in the landfill site of the Tura district.
Along with Sangma, HE Chang Jae Bok, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea, was also present on this occasion. The waste-to-energy plant at Tura is a first of its kind pilot project, which was planned to be launched in October 2020, but due to the pandemic, it could only be launched in 2022.
The plant has a capacity of 35 metric tonnes which will be operated by Chamhana Institute of Technology, a South Korean firm.
In this plant, all the organic waste and non-recyclable waste, including the plastic waste will be processed. All the waste, except the recyclable waste, will be crushed in the first step and then mixed with the patented enzyme. Through this process, green and smokeless fuel blocks will be produced and this entire process will be completely automated.
