WARANGAL, Telangana: The City of Warangal is now a part of UNESCO’s prestigious Global Network of Learning Cities (GNLC) for its efforts to make learning a reality for all its citizens. Other than Warangal, 76 other cities spread across 44 countries have been included in this global network.

A strong commitment of the urban local bodies towards lifelong learning and a decent track record of implementation of policies is a must to join the global network. After becoming part of the network, cities get support from GNLC to achieve all the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially in sectors such as making quality education accessible and inclusive and making available safe, resilient and sustainable human settlements.

Gundu Sudharani, Mayor, Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation (GWMC), noted, “It’s a moment of pride for Telangana as Warangal joins UNESCO GNLC.” She highlighted that some of the flagship schemes of the Government of Telangana, including Pattana Pragathi. Haritha Haram and the Mission for Elimination of Poverty in Municipal Areas (MEPMA), have been instrumental in making Warangal part of the GNLC.
