VADODARA: With the aim of supplying treated waste water to state public sector undertakings (PSU), the Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) has decided to set up a special purpose vehicle (SPV). VMC is planning to setup a sewage treatment plant (STP) at Chhani for treating the waste water as per industrial standards and providing the same to the industries using more than 1 lakh litres of water on a daily basis for purposes other than drinking.
In May 2019, the State government had announced the policy of use of treated waste water (TWW) by such industrial units. The STP coming up at Chhani has a capacity of processing 50 million litres of sewage on a daily basis. However, the plant will have to be equipped with better filtration facilities and pressure lines to provide TWW to industries. VMC has been approached by GSFC Ltd, GACL Ltd as well as Gujarat Industries Power Company Ltd (GIPCL) for using the TWW. According to a detailed project report (DPR), the capital cost of the project has been estimated at Rs 124.68 crore. The project has already been cleared by the state-level technical committee (STC) and the state-level high power committee (SHPC).
All stakeholders of the project, including VMC, GSFC, GACL and GIPCL, recently held a meeting to decide the share of each of them in the project cost. GSFC Ltd will be bearing 60 per cent of the cost while GACL and GIPCL will bear 15 per cent each of the capital cost and VMC will bear 10 per cent share. The various bodies involved have decided to form a SPV which will consist of one representative each from VMC, GSFC, GACL and GIPCL. The project is likely to contribute to saving thousands of litres of water daily and spread awareness about the importance of using water judicially and its reuse.
