VIJAYAWADA: In a bid to make citizens more aware about the harm being caused to environment due to the use of single-use plastic, the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) has decided to promote the awareness campaigns via new media platforms, marathon runs and street plays to reach out common masses.
V Prasanna Venkatesh, Commissioner, VMC, took the decision for promoting the awareness during the valedictory session of a three-day awareness session for traders and stakeholders over the elimination of single-use plastic at the council hall on August 1.
Venkatesh also urged the meat shop owners to start using leaf plates from ITDA in place of packing the meat in non-degradable plastic bags. He also asked them to spread a word among their customers to bring their own utensils for carrying the meat to decrease the use of single-use plastic.
Gokaraju Gangaraju, former MP, announced supporting the ‘Mana Vijayawada’ an anti-plastic campaign with a financial assistance of rupees 10 lakh. Apart from this, the commissioners asked the educational institutions to conduct street plays around the city for spreading the awareness.
