VISHAKHAPATNAM: The people of Vishakhapatnam can soon be able to make their intercity commute via metro, as Botcha Satyanarayana, Minister for Municipal Administration and Urban Development recently announced about the Vizag Metro Rail Project. The metro rail development work will be carried in three phases and the work is expected to complete in 10 years. The main corridor of the metro would be from Kurmanapalem to Madhurawada. While one route will go to Old Post Office the other to East Point Colony, the Minister stated in his announcement on November 30.
The Minister said that after surveying different routes for the metro, the project is taken up at an estimated cost of Rs 8,300 crore.
Amravati Rail Corporation Limited which is the agency behind executing the Vizag Metro Rail Project, will prepare the master plan for Vizag Metro Rail Project, under the aegis of the Visakhapatnam Metropolitan Region Development Authority (VMRDA) at the directions of the state government.
Initially, Gurudwara to Thatichetlapalem, Gajuwaka to Kommadi and Waltair corridor would be developed. Later Anakapalle, Anandapuram, Bhogapuram and Pendurti, will get the metro connectivity.
