NEW DELHI: The annual ranking of the world’s most liveable cities was released on Thursday, June 23, by the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU). For the Global Liveability Index, 2022, EIU ranked 173 cities from around the world on various factors such as crime rates, health care, political stability, infrastructure, and access to green space.

Vienna, the capital city of Austria, topped the Index this year, after ranking 12th in the report released in 2021. The report mentioned that it was because of the closure of museums and restaurants in Vienna during the pandemic that led to its fall in rankings in 2021’s index. The city held the top rank in the Index in 2018 and 2019, previously. Six out of the top ten cities in the list this year are from Europe.

Copenhagen ranked second and Zurich ranked third in the list. Japan’s Osaka and Australia’s Melbourne shared the tenth place in the Index. Capital of France, Paris, bagged 19th rank in the Index this year by rising 23 places as compared to last year.
