NEW DELHI: Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) is planning to introduce a high-tech semi-high-speed train called Vande Bharat Express connecting Delhi and Katra reducing travel time of approximately 4 hours, shortening the journey time to 8 hours.

According to the officials, the train would be capable of running on a speed of 130 kmph and would observe stoppages at Ambala, Ludhiana and Jammu Tawi stations before arriving at Katra. Senior officials at Rail Bhawan informed that the decision to run the second Vande Bharat Express was taken recently by the Railway Board and the trial runs were expected to commence soon. “Since there are plans that the express train will run at 130 kmph between New Delhi and Ludhiana, we have planned to launch the trial runs of Vande Bharat Express trains between the two stations at the designated speed,” said one of the officials associated with the project.
