KOZHIKODE: Vadakara municipality in Kerala won Nava Kerala Award from Suchitwa Mission on Saturday, September 26, and decided to honour its sanitation workers for this. While launching the event, AK Saseendran, Minister of Forest and Wildlife, Government of Kerala, said that the recent changes in the municipality are exceptional and he offered all the possible help from his department in order to preserve the greenery in town.
Along with Nava Kerala Award, Vadakara town has also won second spot in Chief Minister’s Haritha awards and National Earth awards. Sanitation workers play a major role in keeping the city clean and Vadakara municipality, which has won various rewards due to its waste management, attributes all its rewards to them.
Some of the exceptional features which won the municipality much popularity includes calendar-based collection of non-biodegradable waste, green shops manufacturing cloth bags, green technology centre imparting training in waste management, take-a-break toilets and cleanliness of water bodies.
