WASHINGTON DC: Reuters tally reported more than 1,00,000 COVID-19 cases, a record-high number reported in 24 hours, in the United States of America (USA). USA recorded 1,00,233 new cases on Friday, October 30, surpassing India’s single-day tally of 97,894 cases, which was recorded on September 17. The total number of COVID-19 cases in the US crossed the 9 million mark on Friday. The tally indicates that the country is reporting more than one new case every second.
Dr Ngozi Ezike, Director of the Illinois Department of Public Health, commented that cases, hospitalisations, and deaths are continuously increasing in the country. According to Reuters, the number of patients hospitalised with COVID-19 in the US has risen more than 50 per cent in October to 46,000. States including Ohio, Michigan, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Wiscon reported record-high numbers of new COVID-19 cases. This surge comes days ahead of US Presidential election, which is scheduled to take place on November 3.
