UP’s response to Yamuna rejuvenation ‘unsatisfactory’, says NGT

NEW DELHI: The monitoring committee appointed by the National Green Tribunal (NGT) to look after the Yamuna cleaning has termed the approach of Uttar Pradesh officials to rejuvenate the river as “highly unsatisfactory”. 

The monitoring committee said that despite repeated letters to the CChief secretar of the state the reaction of Uttar Pradesh, since the order has been passed on July 26, the response has been “highly unsatisfactory”.

The monitoring committee appointed by NGT includes Shailaja Chandra, former Chief Secretary of Delhi and B S Sajwan, retired expert member. The expert panel also said that clarity is required on the demarcation of floodplain between Uttar Pradesh and Delhi discussed in the meeting with the principal secretary of Uttar Pradesh and DDA representatives on November 1, 2018.
