UP to get Rs 14,246 crore as disaster response fund in 5 years

NEW DELHI: The 15th Finance Commission has made a proposal to provide a total of Rs 14,246 crore to Uttar Pradesh (UP) for disaster management in the next five years. With this fund, the state government will be able to make proper arrangements to deal with all types of natural disasters such as floods, famines, droughts, etc.

The efforts of the state in developing their manpower, skill and infrastructure has played a major role in making UP disaster ready. According to the information from officials of the Department of Revenue, the state received Rs 3,729 crore in five years from 2015-16 to 2019-20, on the recommendation of the 14th Finance Commission. UP will be provided the highest amount for disaster relief after Maharashtra which received Rs 23,737 crore in five years. Besides this, Rs 13,411 crore will be given to Madhya Pradesh, Rs 11,8819 crore to Odisha and Rs 10,432 will be provided to Bihar.
