LUCKNOW: The Government of Uttar Pradesh has declared a local pond in Patwai village of Rampur district as the state’s first ‘Amrit Sarovar’, as per Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s initiative to encourage water conservation. This elicited praise from the PM, which he mentioned on his show ‘Mann ki Baat’. As part of ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’- a year long initiative to celebrate 75 years of India’s independence- each district would get 75 ‘Amrit Sarovars’ or ponds.

The state government has planned 1000 ‘amrit sarovars’ across the state with the first one in Rampur. PM Modi said in his program that each drop of water is like ‘amrit’ (elixir) and therefore, water conservation has been included in the initiative ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’.
