Union Transport Minister inaugurates Intelligent Transport system on Eastern Peripheral Expressway

NEW DELHI:  Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways of India launched the first Intelligent Transport System (ITS) on the Eastern Peripheral Expressway at Dasna, Ghaziabad, in an effort to reduce traffic congestion and improve commuter safety.

On the opening of the intelligent transportation system, the Road Transport and Highways Minister said, “It is a tremendous occasion in the history of Indian infrastructure development” on the inauguration of ITS. According to him, ITS is a revolutionary state-of-the-art technology that will improve traffic efficiency by lowering travel time, encouraging optimal infrastructure usage, enriching users with prior traffic knowledge, and boosting commuter safety and comfort. He further stated that any accident can be detected by the ITS, which sends out notifications to ensure that an ambulance arrives within 10-15 minutes. While cars are allowed to go at 120 kmph on the 135-kilometer expressway, the road ministry is trying to adjust speed limits for other types of vehicles, he said.

 Additionally, the Union minister laid the foundation stone for 240 km of National Highway projects worth $9,119 crore in Uttar Pradesh’s Meerut and Muzaffarnagar on Thursday, December 23. He said that these projects will emphasize on the farmer’s welfare by leveraging technology for economic prosperity.
