KATHAMDU: Since the launching of the Sagarmatha Cleaning Campaign on April 14, the Nepal government has collected as much as 3,000 kg solid waste from the Mt Everest region.
According to Dandu Raj Ghimire, director general, tourism department, 2,000 kg of the total collected garbage has been sent to Okhaldhunga while 1,000 kg of garbage has been brought to Kathmandu for disposal, Himalayan Times reported.
Around 23 million Nepalese rupees will be spent for the cleaning campaign, as per the estimates from the tourism department.
This is the first venture in which the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, the Ministry of Environment, Nepalese Army, Nepal Mountaineering Association, Sagarmatha Pollution Control Committee, Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality, and Nepal tourism board are working together to clean up the world’s highest peak.
