KOLKATA: The Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) has decided to list out all authorised buildings in the city and publish them on the KMC website. The decision was taken by Mayor Firhad Hakim after receiving a call from a helpless resident pleading to not demolish her building, since she was unaware of its unauthorised status when she’d bought it seven years ago. He asked Binod Kumar, Municipal Commissioner, KMC to take action in this regard.
The list of unauthorised buildings will also be sent to the state and land revenue department to make sure no registrations are done. The Mayor also gave strict warning to the civic body’s building department’s officials against any slackening towards cases of illegal constructions. According to an official from KMC, unauthorised constructions have been rising in areas such as Garden Reach, Behala, Tollygunge-Jadavpur belt, Nayaban, Patuli, Mukundpur, etc. After an inspection of under-construction buildings in these areas, they will be added to the existent list of illegal buildings and then they’ll be updated on the website, to apprize people of the fraud. It is also being conjectured that the officials have started preparing a list of buildings to be demolished either by the order of the court or the judges of KMC buildings department tribunal.
