UNA: Una district administration, in a bid to commemorate Mahatma Gandhi on his 150th birth anniversary, announced the launch of “Mera Una – Swachh Una”. The campaign would begin on September 11 and will end on October 2.
Sandeep Kumar, Deputy Commissioner, said that the objective of the campaign was to create public awareness on cleanliness so as to bring a qualitative improvement in their lives. Awareness regarding the ban on polythene and proper disposal of solid and wet waste would also be a part of the campaign. The DC said that various departments had been assigned different roles and responsibilities, adding that the Health Department would educate the people about the spread of diseases due to poor sanitation and improper disposal of sanitary napkins. The Irrigation and Public Health (IPH) department would collect drinking water samples from various sources across the district to test the toxicity.
