LUCKNOW, Uttar Pradesh: The Department of Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) has decided to rank municipal corporations in the state on the basis of their performance in a seven-day cleanliness drive across the cities.
In line with the decision to rank urban local bodies, the department has also asked the corporations in Uttar Pradesh to begin a seven-day cleanliness drive in their respective cities. The department observed that huge quantities of solid waste were lying in open spaces in the cities. Following this observation, the department instructed the civic bodies to initiate a week-long cleanliness drive in their respective areas of jurisdiction.
The department sent a letter to all municipal corporations, which read, “It has been observed that a lot of solid waste is lying in the towns, including the horticulture waste. Therefore, a cleaning drive should be organised in all the ULBs from December 1 with the help of NGOs, SHGs, volunteers, students, market associations, youth organisations and RWAs. It is desirable that any kind of waste lying in the open spaces within the jurisdiction of the municipality should be lifted by the concerned municipality within seven days.”
