LONDON: Boris Johnson, Prime Minister of the United Kingdom (UK) might announce a new lockdown in the country. The whole of Europe, including the UK is taking the hit of the second wave of coronavirus infections. There has been a resurgence of COVID-19 cases which has overwhelmed the hospitals and ICU units in the nation. According to government data, the UK on October 30 reported 25,405 new cases of COVID-19. UK has recorded an average of more than 20,000 COVID-19 positive cases in the recent week, indicating the persistent rise in cases in the nation.
The Times newspaper reported that new lockdown and its regulations could be introduced on November 4 and remain in place until December 1. Citing a senior government source, the newspaper added that the new measures are still under discussion and Johnson is expected to hold a conference and make any official announcement regarding the same on November 2. It is anticipated that under new measures, everything will remain closed except essential shops and educational settings.
