BHUBANESWAR: The Housing and Urban Development Department, Government of Odisha, issued a draft notification on Wednesday, January 12, stating that the post of Mayor has been reserved for women in the BMC and the Berhampur civic body. The post has been left unreserved in the Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC).
Women have previously led the Berhampur Municipal Corporation and the CMC, but this is the first time the job has been reserved for them in the BMC. Along with the proposed reservation for the mayor’s position, the department has urged all interested parties to submit objections and suggestions within a 15-day timeframe. Following the resolution of the objections and suggestions, the final list of reservations will be released.
