HYDERABAD, Telangana: Telangana State Pollution Control Board (TSPCB) has emerged at the top in Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment) activities in India by engaging Self Help Groups (SHG) and the student community.

Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) gave themes to pollution control boards in the states, out of which they could pick themes. Telangana picked save water, reduce single-use plastic and save energy themes.

As of June 5, TSPCB organised over 10,000 awareness activities, followed by Andhra Pradesh with 8,000 such activities, Maharashtra with 2,500 and Karnataka with 2,300.

List of activities organised by the TSPCB includes cleaning of lakes and hackathons by the students who were asked to come up with strategies to reduce pollution on selected topics. A district official said, “Many women’s self-help groups, who usually work on other things were also actively involved in the process.”  Mission LiFE stands for Lifestyle for Environment and it was launched by the Prime Minister of India. It is a global mass movement to encourage people towards action aimed at protecting and preserving the environment. As part of this mission, 75 individuals’ LiFE actions have been identified and are grouped into seven themes, includes save water, save energy, reduce waste, reduce e-waste, reduce single-use plastic items, adopting sustainable food systems and adopting healthy lifestyles.
