Tripura’s air quality monitoring station made operational

AGARTALA, Tripura: Tripura Pollution Control Board has operationalised 2nd air quality monitoring station in Agartala on Friday, May 6.

The move has come in compliance with National Green Tribunal’s (NGT’s) directions regarding air pollution. Currently, Agartala is ranked second in the air quality index of the northeast following Guwahati. Although, all the pollutants that are measured, other than particulate matter (PM) 10 and PM 2.5, are within the prescribed limits.

Constant Ambient Air Quality Monitoring Stations (CAAQMS) measure pollutants throughout the year and provide real-time data based on which air quality of a city or town is determined. The pollutants that are measured under CAAQMS are Carbon Monoxide (CO), Sulphur Dioxide (SO2), Nitrogen Dioxide (NO2), Ammonia (NH3), Ozone (O3), volatile organic compound (VOC), PM 10 and PM 2.5.
