AGARTALA: In the Responsible Consumption and Production Index, Tripura has secured the first place in the country corresponding to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Besides this, it also topped in the no-poverty index among other north Indian states, as per the findings of the State of India’s Environment 2022 study by the Centre for Science and Environment.
As per the report, Tripura managed to score 99 in terms of per capita fossil fuel consumption, utilisation of nitrogenous fertiliser, generation of hazardous waste and plastic waste, and treatment of bio-medical waste followed by Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Sikkim of the region but above the national average. This ranking spoke about the progress made by the state in augmenting resources efficiency, green economics, and sustainable infrastructure. Moreover, such assessment focused on mitigating degradation, pollution, and minimising waste by effective management of shared natural resources. Tripura also topped among the northeastern states for the initiative of eradicating poverty; that too in forms and dimensions by 2030. This involved increasing basic resources and services and supporting communities affected by the conflict and climate-related issues.
