AGARTALA, Tripura: NITI Aayog released the Round 1 of State Energy & Climate Index (SECI) on April 16. Tripura emerged on top in the electric vehicle (EV) penetration category.
NITI Aayog praised the efforts made by Tripura to increase the proportion of consumers with smart meters and penetration of EVs in the state. With a score of 58.7, Tripura emerged as the best performer in the ‘New Initiative’ category. The new initiative parameter comprises of three indicators – EV penetration, availability of charging infrastructure, and proportion of consumers with smart meters.
The SECI is the first index to track the performance of states and union territories in climate and energy sector. It aimed to address the climate change and clean energy transition goal of India. It consists of six parameters: (i) DISCOMs performance, (ii) access, affordability and reliability of energy, (iii) clean energy initiative, (iv) energy efficiency, (v) environmental sustainability, (vi) new initiatives. These indicators further branch into 27 indicators. Based on these parameters, states and UTs are assessed and accorded the status of front runner, achiever and aspirant.
