NEW DELHI: An analytical study by the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Mandi, has pointed out the reasons for increasing COVID-19 cases in India. It said that the people travelling from Dubai and United Kingdom (UK) are the prime reason for spread of novel coronavirus in India. The study has been published in the Journal of Travel Medicine.
According to the metrics calculated in the data, Dubai and UK played a major role in the importation of COVID-19 infections in the country. Sarita Azad, Assistant Professor, IIT Mandi, said that in order to perform the study, they tracked the diffusion and spread of COVID-19 in India. The study was dedicated to track the super spreaders of the virus by tracking the travel history of patients in phase one. It was found that most of the transmissions were local.
The study also found that the COVID-19 infected cases in states like Delhi, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu didn’t cause the spread of novel coronavirus outside their community. However, on the other hand, the states like Gujarat, Maharashtra, Kerala, Rajasthan and Jammu and Kashmir, were the prime contributor in the local and inter-state transmission of the novel coronavirus.
