NEW DELHI: Adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) is picking up pace across the country and Delhi is no exception. Power Discom, Tata Power Delhi Distribution Limited (TPDDL) informed that it has enhanced the charging infrastructure by installing over 1400 chargers across the city.
TPDDL is also working closely with the North Delhi Municipal Corporation for the purpose of installing 50 EV charging stations at marketplaces and parking spots in the coming four to five months, said Ganesh Srinivasan, Chief Executive Officer, TPDDL. Moreover, TPDDL is also working on operating expenses (OPEX model), under which it installs EV chargers on public or private land, and the operations are handled by TATA Power. Besides conventional charging stations, the stations with a battery swap offer quick services to two and three-wheelers and e-rikshaws, TPDDL officials stated.
Electric vehicles account for almost nine per cent of the total vehicle sales across the city, a city representative informed. Moreover, the sale of EVs has also surpassed CNG and diesel vehicles in Delhi in the previous quarter, he added.
