JAIPUR: The tourism and hospitality sectors were given industry status by the Government of Rajasthan on Saturday. Shanti Dhariwal, Minister of Urban Housing Development and Local Self Government, issued a notification regarding this on Saturday, according to an official release.
Chief Minister of Rajasthan Ashok Gehlot had announced during budget presentation in February that tourism and hospitality sectors would be accorded industry status. The tourism industry was badly hit during the novel coronavirus pandemic. The move will help in reviving the sector post pandemic.
Consequently, their electricity prices and various other taxes levied will be closer to those charged in other businesses, rather than the significantly higher commercial rates. It was also announced in the budget presentation that these incentives will cost the state Rs 700 crore each year.
