CHENNAI, Tamil Nadu: The Tamil Nadu Housing Board (TNHB) is to complete the construction of more than 3000 residential and commercial units under the various schemes in which the board is named the implementation agency. The construction of these 3000 units will be completed by 2025.
The policy note issued by the Department of Housing and Urban Development for 2024-25 says the housing board is engaged in constructing housing units and area development projects in various places. Similarly, under the Self-Finance scheme, TNHB is implementing eight housing projects in Chennai, Chengalpattu, and Tiruchi.
Under the scheme, about 2385 houses are being built for low, middle, and high-income groups at the cost of ₹886 crore. Out of the eight projects, TNHB will complete six by 2025. Also, 592 residential and commercial units are being built at , K K Nagar, Ashok Nagar, Arumbakkam, and Besant Nagar in Chennai and Erode district at the cost of ₹624.18 crore.
Apart from the housing units, the board is also engaged in the area development schemes and creating layouts for roads, streetlights, water supply, and sewer lines on its land. Once completed, these residential and commercial units are handed over to the respective local bodies for maintenance. The board will complete 779 such units in Thiruvallur, Chennai, and Vellore by next year.
