TN to hold largest COVID-19 vaccination drive with 30,000 camps

CHENNAI: The largest ever COVID-19 vaccination drive in Tamil Nadu will be held on October 10 in 30,000 camps with an aim to administer vaccine doses to 70 per cent of the population. Thiru Ma Subramanian, Minister of Health and Family Welfare, Government of Tamil Nadu, said on Tuesday, October 5, that the vaccination will be done as per the standards prescribed by the World Health Organisation.

Subramanian also said that this will be a part of the fifth edition of mega vaccination drive held by the state health department every Sunday since September 12. In terms of vaccination camps, this will be the largest drive with 30,000 camps across the state. He added that presently, the state government has almost 24 lakh vaccine doses and it is expected that 9 lakh more doses will be sent by the Government of India. By Sunday, it is expected that the administration will have 25 lakh vaccines for the drive.

Subramanian said that 64 per cent of the population in the state has been administered the first dose and 22 per cent have been given the second dose of COVID-19 vaccine. In wake of the vaccination drive being held on Sunday, Chief Minister MK Stalin declared a holiday for nurses on Mondays.
