COIMBATORE, Tamil Nadu: In line with the directives of the Commissionerate of Municipal Administration (CMA), the Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation (CCMC) has directed the people to link their Public Distribution System (PDS) card with the tax assessment number before January 31, 2023.
Owners of residential buildings in the jurisdiction of CCMC must link their PDS card with the property tax number, while the commercial building owners must link their PAN or GST number with the property tax number. Additionally, people who have rented or leased properties of the corporation should also link their PAN or GST details with rental or leased allocation number.
As per the sources, CMA issued the circular on the order of the state finance department. The exercise is aimed at refining the data of PDS beneficiaries to prevent leakages and ensure that welfare assistance reaches the intended target groups.
A senior CCMC official informed TNIE, “The purpose of linking PDS with property details is to create an integrated database of consumer details. Currently, many government welfare schemes are not reaching the people in need.”
Last week, M Prathap, Commissioner of CCMC, directed people living in the area of corporation to visit their respective zonal office and submit a copy of their property tax book and family card. Separate counters have been opened in zonal offices for this purpose, and the centre will work from 9 am to 4 pm on weekends.
