THANE, Maharashtra: Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) has devised the idea of setting up mobile vehicles equipped with water tanks to allow people to immerse the Ganesh idols conveniently. The move also aims to address the issue of overcrowding as the mobile vehicle units will be travelling to different localities on September 8, 12, and 14.

These specifically designed mobile vehicles will be travelling to different localities to give people the opportunity to perform all rituals related to the festivals without the need to go to crowded places specifically for idol immersion. On three key days for idol immersion, September 8, 12, and 14, six mobile immersion vehicles will be moving across the cities.

As per the press release, the mobile units will have water tanks in which the local residents can perform the immersion and other rituals, and later the remnants of the idols will be transferred to manmade lakes and other immersion sites.

Apart from this, the Thane civic body has set up 49 tank immersion systems across the city, 15 artificial lakes, 10 idol acceptance centres, and nine ghats for idol immersion.
