THRISSUR: The new budget of Thrissur Municipal Corporation which was presented by P. Rafy Jose, Deputy Mayor offered to give a facelift for the city with slew of development projects. It envisaged a revenue of Rs 710.57 crore and expenditure of Rs 676.21 crore.
Under the budget, new bus stands to be built at Puzhakkal
and Ollukkara and an amount of Rs 1 crore has been earmarked for a modern
multilevel parking in the city. Four small hydro-electric projects at
Kannamkuzhy (10 mw); Averkutty (10 mw); Ettyani (2.5 mw); and Kanjirakolly (3
mw) are proposed to be launched in the city and an online system will be
introduced for electricity bill payment.
With the objective to make Thrissur an elderly-friendly city, three day-care centers
for the elders are to be opened in three divisions of the Corporation. In the
new budget, the Corporation has reduced tax for buildings of up to 1,500 sq ft.
The water charge was also reduced by 10 per cent and steps have been taken to
get technical sanction for a flyover at West Fort. Under the new budget several
road development works are proposed which include a sky-walk and modern
foot-overbridged to be built at Shakthan Nagar. An amount of Rs 100 crore has
been allocated for road development. A multilevel parking will also come up at
Kolothumpadam under the proposed budget.
