HYDERABAD: Jagdish Reddy, Minister of Power, Government of Telangana, said on Tuesday, September 15, 2020, that Telangana will soon emerge as the leading power producer of the country. The electricity production capacity of the state is expected to touch the mark of 27,000 MW, from the installed capacity of mere 7,700 MW when the state was formed.
Reddy said, while addressing the house, that Telangana has proved in a short time that it is capable of producing round the clock, free and quality power for its farmers. He added that at the time of the separation of the state from Andhra Pradesh, the condition was bad as there were power holidays, industrialists had to strike to demand regular power supply and the farmers were getting just 2 hours of electricity, that too at night. The agriculture sector suffered crop failures due to low voltage which, in turn, resulted in the increasing farmer suicides.
He lauded various infrastructure projects and said that ongoing projects such as Yadadri Ultra Thermal Power plant (4,000 MW), Bhadradri (810 MW), NTPC Ramagundam (4,000 MW), Singareni (800 MW), Solar Power (1,723 MW) and Generating Stations (382 MW), will all add up to make Telangana the state with the highest installed capacity in the country. Telangana is also on the top in terms of the consumption growth rate (9.22 per cent) among states consuming more than 1,000 MW.
